So glad I quit you

light at the end of the tunnel

I was chatting with a friend yesterday and somehow the topic of facebook popped up. My friend (whom I was chatting with) never signed up for facebook and I told her it was probably for the best. I added that I’m still so happy I left it about six months ago or so. (Was it six months ago? I can’t even remember anymore.)

In any case, I was trying to describe my personal experience with it and what it ended up being like (again, for me) so I thought I’d share that here:

It’s like you’re in a room full of people you know; some of them are very close to you, some you knew from your childhood or growing up, some from previous work places, and so on. But all you can hear is noise. Each one is throwing out some sort of piece of information at you, stupid, useless, or otherwise. Then ONCE in a while something interesting pops up, but it’s quite rare and you’d probably miss it.

Like I said, too much damn noise.

  1. I stopped checking mine last year and feel so much better for it. Every now and then I have to go on because people message me there, but after about 5 minutes of scrolling — I’m reminded why I quit. I haven’t deleted it yet, but am super close.

I liked it when it first started up as a way to keep up with friends who were far away. But now it’s just…well you know. I’ve reverted back to good ol’ email and letter writing! (More email than letter writing.)
