Stumptown and Gelato

I’m regularly asked what my favorite coffee is and how I like it. I can’t recall ever writing about that here, which is odd (except for some of the tasty coffees that are better than Starbucks), so I thought why not.

None of these coffeemakers paid me to write any of this. My love of these three particular coffee brands has all to do with buying and tasting them or getting them as gifts. Here they are in order of my own personal preference.

Stumptown Coffee RoastersI had never heard of Stumptown until San told me about it via Twitter or Instagram (I can’t recall). She loves coffee herself (just as much as I do) and has a great appreciation for tasty, good quality coffee. So essentially I trusted her and bought a pack when I happened upon it in a local store near my workplace. It was love at first sip. The light burst through the clouds and I heard the coffee angels sing. Every other coffee I tasted after that was completely ruined for me. The only sad, terrible, awful thing about this is that Stumptown does not have a coffee shop here in DC. They are based in Portland, but have cafés around Oregon, New York, Seattle, and LA. I have actually begged them on Twitter to open up one here.

Luckily! You can order their coffee online and for any locals around the DC metro area, Glen’s Garden Market and Dolcezza in Dupont both sell their coffee. It goes pretty fast though. The lovely thing about Stumptown is that they roast the coffee beans and then send it to you so you get it as quickly as possible once they receive your order. The freshness adds so much to the taste of the coffee itself. (I should note, I get whole coffee beans when possible and grind them myself for added taste and freshness.)

Swings Coffee Roasters. Any DC metro locals are lucky because this coffee is made and sold here so you should have no trouble finding it. I happened upon this particular coffee when close friends’ of ours brought it over as a gift when we had a get together about a year ago or so. What can I say? My friends know me well!

Swings has been around DC since 1920 and makes fresh, delicious, coffee that is also like no other. For locals, you can find them on G Street or in Alexandria. You can also buy their coffee online or pop into a Whole Foods and find it in the coffee section there. This is another coffee I buy freshly roasted and then grind myself.

illy. I have known about illy for a while, but for some unknown reason never thought of buying a can of their coffee. I’ve only ever seen it at Whole Foods or Wegmans, but it might very well be at other grocery stores. I’ve also seen it served in a few coffee or pastry shops around the DC metro area, but not many. Whenever I pass through the Paris airport, I usually go buy a small cup of it and relish it.

This is another coffee I received during a get together at our place from another set of close friends’ of ours (like I said, my friends know me well). It only lasted about a week to ten days with us since I brewed it almost everyday until it was completely gone. They also sell whole beans, but you can get their ground coffee as well.

So there you have it. My favorite coffees. Well, until I happen upon another one of course.

What’s your favorite? Or favorites?
